  TEXAS TUNA MANIA

AND SWORDFISH CHAMPIONSHIP

Welcome!

We would like to welcome all participants to the

TEXAS TUNA MANIA AND SWORDFISH CHAMPIONSHIP

July 1-4th, 2010

August 19-22, 2010

This is a New Tournament we have created that we believe Texas fishermen will appreciate. The excellent tuna fishing we enjoy on our coast has really never been celebrated the way we think it should, so we have structured this tournament to focus on our great Yellowfin Tuna fishery. In addition we have also established the 1st Annual Texas Swordfish Championship. Fishing for Broadbill Swordfish is getting more popular every year and the Texas State Record was broken last summer! We also have categories for other pelagics, including BILLFISH, but this tournament is geared up for the AVID tuna fisherman and swordfish enthusiast. We have a unique situation off our coast that allows for a concentration of bait around the offshore oil rigs, creating a very consistent fishery many Texans can take advantage of. We are proud to offer this tournament in celebration of what we think is one of the great angling opportunities available on the Texas coast. This tournament is structured much differently than the ordinary big game tournament. Our concept is a tournament with a unique aggregate weight format for yellowfin tuna, scoring the top three fish on each boat. The Billfish Release Division utilizes our video-release format promoting the catch and release of billfish which became extremely popular in the Texas Legends Billfish Tournament. We think you will enjoy this tournament with new ideas, exciting new boat pools and lots of ways to win! We would be proud to have you join us to help make the TEXAS TUNA MANIA AND SWORDFISH CHAMPIONSHIP a first class event.

                                                                         Good Fishing,

Bobby Byrd and Capt. John Cochrane

Video Release Rules

FOR THE BILLFISH RELEASE DIVISION

All boats fishing the Billfish Release Division will be required to have a video camera to verify release of billfish and present their video at the dock for the Tournament Committee to review and verify. All boats must be able to connect their camera to a standard RCA connection and present their video for verification.

 ***NO EXCEPTIONS***

-Releases should be confirmed by nearby boats, if possible, and must be reported to a committee boat

-Only releases verified by video camera and verified by Tournament Committee earn points.

-Each boat is responsible for its own video equipment

-It’s a good idea to film with more than one camera in case of equipment failure.

-After a catch, pan the cockpit - Confirming no other lines in the water.

Each release video must show the following:

Angler fighting the fish showing the Wireman’s shirt of the day. Entire fight is not necessary.

 Clear identification of species

Wireman with leader in hand AND showing the object of the day during wiring and release

Wiring and release of fish showing hook removal or cutting of leader with the fish swimming away, followed by an immediate and complete pan of the cockpit.

The camera should not stop during wiring, release and complete pan of cockpit.

If the wireman has the leader in hand and the hook pulls, the fish still qualifies if all other rules are satisfied. If the fish is only identifiable as a billfish, it will score 100 points.

More is Better! The more video we see, the easier it is for us to verify you have met all of the video release requirements!
